Acknowledging Your Progress in Self-Improvement
Throughout my experience as a professional in the field of personal growth, I have yet to meet a single person who isn’t prosperous. There isn’t even a single unsuccessful individual in the world. Everyone you know and don’t know is just as successful as you are. You doubt this, right? That makes sense. After all, you may not consider yourself particularly successful, and you may not think that most of the people you know or have seen are either.
But I maintain that everyone, no matter who they are or what they do, is successful. Without a doubt, that is true. Rather than asking if someone is successful, we should inquire as to what it is that they are successful at.
Get rid of the notion that achievement requires a happy ending. Successful people are those who can persist in their actions until the desired result is achieved. To achieve one’s goals means that they were successful. No result, positive or negative, is ever attained in the absence of effective action.
It takes time for changes to manifest in our lives (either positively or negatively). No one joins a gym with the intention of getting in shape overnight. Successful behavior change toward the end goal of improved physical fitness is essential. At first, the individual decides consciously or unconsciously to make the effort to improve their physical fitness a priority in their own life. The second step is actually doing what has to be done to get in shape, such as exercising regularly and eating healthily.
We celebrate the action of getting into shape and the results it brings about. Inversely, unfavorable outcomes are no less valid. To get a bad result, you have to first achieve success. Like getting in shape, becoming an alcoholic is a process that can’t be rushed. They make a decision, consciously or subconsciously, and consistently act in ways that lead them to alcoholism.
Therefore, whether or not you are financially successful is a direct effect of your actions. It’s a win, whether you’ve achieved fitness or weight loss. Everything in your life, from the quality of your relationships to the satisfaction you derive from your work to the grades you earn in school, is the direct outcome of the decisions you make in the present.
Knowing you have the potential and power to produce results through successful action, both positive and negative outcomes should be celebrated equally. This is further evidence that you have figured out the secrets to success. Your inability to achieve success is not the issue; rather, it is the goals you set for yourself that are the source of your frustration.
This eliminates the requirement to acquire the skills necessary for success. You need to practice switching up your decision-making and sticking to what you know works. Curiously, this holds true for both positive and negative actions. It’s fairly uncommon to find that those who have achieved the greatest levels of success in business, show business, or some other field are struggling in other aspects of their lives. Even if you achieve success on your own, you may not be content with your life overall.
A balanced, successful existence is one in which one’s positive, effective behavior is mirrored in all areas of one’s life. You can accomplish this by accepting responsibility for your positive actions and focusing on furthering your own growth and development. A self-improvement course can serve as a road map to the kind of life you envision for yourself.
Putting on a pair of shoes is the ultimate test of success, so I like to say that if you can do that, you’ve already made it. A person must decide to put on shoes, choose the shoes they want to wear, and then carry out the behavior of putting on the shoes. Putting on a pair of shoes signifies the completion of a successful task. What shoes are you going to wear as you make your way effectively through life? Actually, you’re free to wear any footwear you like.
